Finding Joy through Quilting

Pine Lake Covenant Church

Mathew is excited to share the main techniques that have enriched his quilting experience: English Paper Piecing, Improv Piecing, and Fabric Weaving.  Each technique has not only enhanced his skills but has also deepened his sense of presence in the moment.  By exploring these methods, he found a pathway to joy that will hopefully inspire all of you.

Mathew’s journey into and through quilting has been a transformative experience that goes beyond mere creativity. It provided a sense of community and a space where he could truly discover his authentic self. Through quilting, he learned to embrace and love who he is, finding inner peace in a world often filled with chaos and distraction.  This simple pursuit of joy through quilting became a vital part of his life, allowing him to connect with others while nurturing his own spirit.

Together, we can celebrate the art of quilting and the profound impact it can have on our lives.

Then to Now

Zoom Only

Learn the influences, trends and fashions of the last 30  years as seen through Kathy’s unique perspective.  As an obsessed quilter for over 30  years, she’s been uniquely poised to work with the best the industry has to offer in textiles, designers and techniques.  Started as a self - taught quilter before falling headfirst into owning a patchwork shop.  Material Obsession opened in 2003 and quickly became known for creativity.

Included are stories and observations about the industry that affect quilters in general. Although rooted in tradition, Material Obsession started at the beginning of the modern movement combining the best of tradition with the freshness of modern in every way.

Kathy is a well- known quilt designer, international teacher, author of 6 books and fabric designer for FreeSpirit and Figo Fabrics.  She’ll share process details of designing fabric collections.

Most recently her passion is Organic Applique … the path to taking control of creative projects!

Annual Charity Sew-In

Faith Church

The Charity Sew-In is moving to Saturday instead of the typical Thursday evening.  Signup at the January 8th guild meeting (NOTE: this is the second Thursday given the New Year's holiday).

This annual event is always a ton of fun and very productive.  If you have never been to one of these sew-ins, it;s time!

Since 1988, BPQ members have made quilts for children staying at Ronald McDonald House while being treated at Seattle Children's Hospital.  Each child gets to choose their own quilt and pillowcase when they move in.  Every holiday season BPQ members provide quilted holiday stockings for the children at Ronald McDonald House.

BPQ also provides quilts to Evergreen Hospice, KidVantage (formerly Eastside Baby Corner) and Swedish Palliative Care of Issaquah.  The Harborview Pediatric Burn Center was added to our recipient list in 2024.  They offer the highest level of critical care for children with trauma, which often results from car crashes, burns or falls.  Treehouse is another organization we added in 2024.  It has become Washington's leading organization addressing the academic and other essential supports of youth in foster care.

The Charity team makes sure your quilts go to the right organization!  For more information email them at Charity@blockpartyquilters.org.
