My journey in Quilting, choosing fabrics for quilts, prepping your complete quilt

In my lecture I will describe how I got into quilting, despite hating sewing. I am of Indian heritage and how this has contributed to my love of colour.

Over the years whilst preparing so many of my designs, I have found easy ways of choosing fabric as well as preparing your quilt so that it is then portable. Choosing fabric is described by many as "difficult". I have no qualifications regarding art, colour etc. I believe I have an innate sense of colour -and I will describe how I've arrived at that.

Reruns: Quilts Inspired by the Past

I have recreated many antique quilts, thankfully using modern technology and full lighting! The little quirks that I find in antique quilts are so charming. I couldn’t possibly bring home every antique that I fall in love with, so I am compelled to recreate my own. Being inspired by the quilters that have stitched before me, I know I will never run out of ideas. Reproducing these gems is the next best thing to owning the originals.

My Top Ten Art Quilt Techniques

With a slide show and Q&A discussion, grab a cuppa tea as I share my favourite techniques that I use to create my art quilts. I discuss painting with acrylic on fabric, my easy ways to painting with dye & salt, and my “secret squirrel” technique of painting with bleach.

I share free-motion yarn couching techniques and how I physically manage my current passion to quilt BIG! I probably share too much including my shoe size! We enjoy a chat for 45minutes – 1hour with Q & A.

Bojagi - From ancient traditions to contemporary interpretations

Bojagi have played an important role in traditional Korean culture and have been used in the everyday to wrap, carry and store objects. Until the 1950’s they were used to wrap or cover everything from bedding and clothes to food dishes and for religious rituals. I will introduce you to the historical significance and symbolism of this ancient craft and how contemporary textile artists are interpreting these ideas in their work.

I include plenty of examples in the power point and I will show actual examples of bojagi to the group after the talk using my overhead camera.
